Pequot Lakes 12-under Hockey

The Pequot Lakes 12-under B Team won the consolation title at the Minnesota State Youth Hockey tournament March 13-15 in Richfield.
The Prowlers opened the tournament Friday with a 2-1 overtime loss to Minnetonka. Pequot Lakes came back to win the consolation title by defeating Wayzata 3-2 in overtime on Saturday and topping Sauk Rapids 6-4 on Sunday.

Pequot Lakes 1,Minnetonka 2 (OT)
The Prowlers opened the scoring in the second period when Kaylyn Eggena netted a power-play goal, assisted by Hailey Deutsch. Minnetonka later scored on goalkeeper Kat Jensen to force overtime.
Minnetonka was able to sneak the puck by Jensen in a flurry at the net to win in overtime.
Jensen finished with 35 saves while the Minnetonka goalie stopped 17 shots.

Wayzata 2 (OT)
On Saturday, the Prowlers topped Wayzata in a penalty ridden game. Pequot's Emily Erickson netted an unassisted short-handed goal in the first period, but Wayzata answered with a power-play goal later in the period.
In the second, Erickson again tallied with a breakaway goal early in the period. Once again, Wayzata answered with a short-handed goal late in the period.
Pequot Lakes then won in overtime as Erickson won the faceoff and got the puck to Eggena, who skated into the zone andÊbeat the goalie with an outside shot. Jensen finished with 29 saves while Wayzata's goalie made 27 saves.

Sauk Rapids 4
In Sunday's consolation championship, the Prowlers fell behind Sauk Rapids 3-0 in the opening five minutes. Eggena was able to get Pequot on the board late in the period, assisted by Erika Monson.
Sauk Rapids scored again midway through the second period, but Pequot Lakes answered with a pair of goals by Eggena. The first tally came on a power play while the second was assisted by Carly Christiansen.
The second goal gave Eggena the hat trick and pulled the Prowlers to within one goal as time expired in the middle period.
Pequot Lakes dominated in the third perod as Erickson scored on a breakaway to tie it 4-4. Eggena tallied again late in the period to put Pequot Lakes ahead by one goal.
Sauk Rapids threw everything they had at the Prowlers in the last minute of the game after pulling their goalie, but Pequot was able to clear the zone for an empty-net goal by Eggena, who shot from the blue line with only seconds left to clinch the victory.
The Prowlers thank the fire departments from Crosslake, Cuyuna, Ideal Corners and Pequot Lakes, youth hockey association members, the Pequot Lakes Police Department, and all who cheered on the caravan for the send-off on Thursday, March 13.
The team also thanks Jordan Salwei of Fergus Falls, who agreed to accompany the team as aÊbackup goalie, as allowed under state tournament rules.
